The Right Average Master Bedroom Size
Building a master bedroom is an exciting opportunity for anyone who finds themselves in the situation. There are an abundance of directions that can be taken and with each comes a completely different set of amazing benefits. While coming up with the design for a master bedroom is easily one of the best situations to be in, it is one that requires a few important considerations before beginning the building process itself.
The overall size of the bedroom is going to be the biggest item on the list of considerations. The average master bedroom size is going to vary depending on a number of different situations. You see, coming up with the size for the overall design requires more than simply throwing a few numbers onto a piece of paper. You will need to look at the total square footage of the entire living space in the home before coming up with an average master bedroom size of any kind.
The smallest size for any master bedroom should be no less than 13ft x 12ft. This would provide enough room for a single king size bed, two very generous night stands (one on either side of the bed), and at least 30 inches of space, between the bed and a standard size dresser, for walking. Anything smaller than this would be categorized as a standard bedroom rather than a master bedroom which defeats the purpose of building a master bedroom to begin with.
The average master bedroom size square feet is usually between 200 and 250 square feet. This is typically somewhere between 14ft x 15ft and 15ft x 16ft in diameter. This is definitely more than enough room for anything a master bedroom would need to include and provides more than enough room to build a sizable, connecting master bath as well. It is, however, not the biggest category that master bedrooms are built in.
A competitive master bedroom size would be in the range of 20ft x 17ft and 20ft x 19ft in diameter. This equals out to about 350 square feet and would provide an abundance of extra decorating space. Any master bedroom that is over 20ft x 20ft would be considered a luxury sized master bedroom and should only be built in houses that have a total square footage of over 3,500 feet. This is definitely over the average master bedroom size square feet and would provide more than enough space to decorate the bedroom to look like a complete studio living area. It could include everything from the king size bed to a couch, coffee table and recliner.
A master bath is an important part of every master bedroom and the average size of a master bath will typically be somewhere around 11ft x 14ft in diameter. This is the average size of a master bath in a master bedroom with 350 square feet of space. Anything larger than 400 square feet will require a master bath that is at least 14ft x 16ft in diameter. The general rule of thumb, when designing a master bath, is that the master bath should be equal to around one half of the size of the master bedroom.
Master bedrooms come in a variety of different sizes and shapes, and with a little bit of preparation, the perfect master bedroom can be built every time.
